Murnun (Dugong)

‘Dugong is a good traditional food and we hunt it with spear. We roast it in a sand fire. We dig some sand and the we put hot rocks on top. We get the rocks from the cliff at side camp. Then we put dugong on top and cover it with sand and a spicey leaf.
I like doing art at the women centre. It makes me comfortable and I like meeting up with some of the girls. I like doing dugong painting. When I was little I started to draw the dugong. I said, ‘this is how the dugong looks’. I was starting to draw the dugong, when I started drawing it he makes me feel comfortable. He offers me protection.’
