Phyllis Dungudja

Biography

Phyllis is an integral member of the Bábbarra Women’s Centre sewing team and she mentors young sewers. She has worked at Bábbarra Women’s Centre for decades, with her preferred items to sew being skirts, cushion covers and tablecloths.

Phyllis has five children, all of whom live with her in Manayingkarírra (Maningrida), which is where she was born. When she is not sewing, Phyllis goes fishing on her homeland, with her preferred catch being red snapper, mud crab and catfish. She loves collecting cockles and shellfish for her family to cook up on the fire.
