Young Daluk x Babbarra is project developed by Babbarra Women’s Centre, designed to create career pathways into the Australian Fashion Industry for young women in Maningrida Community.

In February of 2023, Designer Taylor Barnard and Patter Maker/Sewer Angela Piper from Kivari the Label and Babbarra artist/National Indigenous Fashion Award winner Esther Yarllarlla, facilitated a 2-week garment design workshop at Babbarra Women’s Centre where 10 young women learnt the basic skills of design, pattern making and sewing. The group of 10, successfully completed a total of 4 beautiful garments.

As well as taking part in the workshop, participants also learnt skills in screen print and block print from senior Babbarra artists. Passing on the skills of ancestral story telling through textiles to the next generation is an important part of Babbarra’s history and is ongoing today through initiatives such as Young Daluk x Babbarra.
